Description: This shade-tolerant annual or biennial has a scent which some find unpleasant, and often lasts through the winter in southern Britain. The pretty flowers have pink petals with orange or purple anthers and are held in loose clusters. Herb-Robert has deeply cut lobed leaves which can be green through to bright red colour, and are often shiny. It is common on shaded banks, hedgerows, woods and coastal shingle throughout the country, and is tolerant of all but the most acidic soils. It will self-seed profusely in gardens and attract a wide range of insects.
