ISpider > Zygiella x-notata
Description: 3 - 7mm. Ground colour ranges from grey to dark brown, with a distinct leaf-like pattern on the abdomen. This usually has a silvery lustre and is often outlined in pink.

Habits: Spins a more or less vertical orb-web, usually on buildings or fences, but also in trees or bushes. The corners of doors and window frames are favourite sites and the web is easily recognised by the two empty sectors near the top. The spider usually hides in a nearby crevice and waits for flies and other insects to become trapped in the web. Adult throughout the year.

Habitat and range: Usually found on or near buildings, and common throughout the UK.
